The midnight specials are a real must-see for the die-hards (there is a reason they are being showed at midnight) and the BUT newbie can warm up with a BUT Light film or a Shorts Block.
Since 2008, Club 70's is on and off a special program at and around the festival. Drive-in, Grindhouse, Blaxploitations, Horror, Kung Fu, Giallo and other cult-films from the late 60's, the golden 70's and early 80's are screened the way they are meant to be screened; meaning celluloid prints in various states of decay. Sometimes scratched, sometimes dirty and with lots of splices, sometimes the colour has turned red.
Everything about BUT Film Festival, from preparation to final credits, is run by enthusiastic volunteers who wish to do their part to help the alternative film scene and the culture surrounding it. As with the films, we strive to stimulate creativity, personal development and create room for new ideas within an informal setting. All the while keeping the focus on having fun!
We are very pleased to announce that the one and only Richard Stanley (director) will be guest of BUT Film Festival 2017! He is the award-winning South African-born filmmaker, who made a name of himself with his first feature film, the sci-fi movie Hardware (1990). This low budget movie about a mad-dog android loose in an apartment was released in 1990.
Our second guest of the BUT Film Festival 2017 and BUTFF 2017 - Bloody Belgium program to announce is Steve de Roover, writer and director of Forgotten Scares: An In-depth Look at Flemish Horror Cinema (2016). This feature-length documentary goes back to the birth of Flemish horror in the '70s and shines a bright light on the future of horror in Belgium and will be screen at our festival.
The word is out! Fenris , Ibex Angel Order, Black Command & Bloodtomb are the Black Metal bands that will be performing at this years Black Friday. 1st of September at the BUT Film Festival 2017.
